  • Sentara Medical Group and Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) are expanding our full-service academic plastic surgery program in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, VA. Our program is primarily situated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, a 525-bed, level one trauma center, and the main teaching hospital for EVMS. Voted #1 Hospital in Virginia, our tertiary medical center has all specialties represented.

    Position Overview: Currently seeking a plastic surgeon to join our rapidly growing team of Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons. The diverse case mix includes the full spectrum of Hand and Peripheral Nerve Surgery, including but not limited to upper and lower limb reconstruction, elective adult and pediatric hand, and a spectrum of nerve surgeries in children and adults. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in limb salvage and at least be eligible for a Certificate of Added Qualification in hand.     Opportunities: This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a premier plastic surgery training program. Opportunities extend to collaboration with Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter for pediatric hand and nerve surgeries, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, Sentara Leigh Hospital, and utilization of office-based operating rooms.

    Academic Environment: Our integrated residency program is recently approved to increase to two residents per year and is rapidly growing alongside a large, multi-disciplinary team of surgeons that is also increasing. The EVMS Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has six Sentara Medical Group faculty, three faculty at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter, two surgeons at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, and twelve community faculty who are committed to the mission of clinical excellence, research, education, and leadership/administration. Multiple faculty are former Presidents and Chairman of leading national societies. Our mission is to deliver superior care, train the next generation of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and perform at a national level. EVMS has a rich history in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and there are ample research and educational opportunities. Collaboration with Operation Smile and Professors of Old Dominion University enhances the academic environment. An academic appointment at EVMS will be based on experience, education, and academic productivity. The position is available for Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Leadership positions in clinical, administrative, and academic domains are possible and will be based on previous experience. A vision for forming a collaborative hand and peripheral nerve program is encouraged. An interest in clinical research is preferred and will be supported.
