Locum Tenens Cardiothoracic Surgery OR Advanced Practice Provider Opportunity – Norfolk, VA

Quest Locum Tenens is seeking an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) for a locum tenens assignment in Norfolk, Virginia. This position focuses specifically on OR First Assist coverage and is ideal for providers with strong surgical backgrounds in cardiothoracic cases.

Position Details

• Start Date: As soon as credentialed
• Duration: Ongoing, while the team recruits for permanent candidates
• Schedule: Full-time coverage needed (exact schedule to be confirmed with the facility)
• Call: No call anticipated

​

Scope of Work

• First assist in the operating room on cardiac and thoracic cases, including CABG, valve surgeries, heart transplants, aortic dissections, thoracotomies, ECMO cannulation, and mechanical circulatory support implantation
• Perform endoscopic vein harvesting using Maquet or Terumo systems
• Close chests and perform suturing
• Enter postoperative orders
• Place arterial catheters, venous lines, and Swan-Ganz catheters
• Perform chest tube placement, ultrasound-guided thoracentesis, and Cook catheter placement for pleural drainage
• Remove chest tubes and temporary pacing wires

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years of direct experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery OR
• Active Virginia license preferred, but candidates willing to obtain a VA license will be considered
• Compact licenses accepted
• Current DEA and Virginia CSR required (or willingness to obtain)
• Certifications required: ACLS and BLS

Compensation

• Competitive hourly rates up to $150 per hour
