Locum Pediatric Surgeon for weekend call coverage

A leading healthcare facility is seeking an experienced Locum Pediatric Surgeon for weekend call coverage. This urgent position requires availability from December 31 through January 6, with additional coverage needed into 2025. The locum will provide specialized pediatric surgical care, including trauma and neonatal surgery, with the support of a skilled pediatric team.

Responsibilities:

• Provide pediatric and neonatal surgical care, including trauma management for patients 14 years and under.
• Perform critical procedures such as arterial lines, thoracentesis, chest tube insertions, needle decompression for pneumothorax, and x-ray interpretation.
• Oversee and supervise other healthcare providers in the pediatric surgery unit.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes specialists in NICU, Gastroenterology, Critical Care, Neurosurgery, Urology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, and more.
• Ensure accurate documentation using the EPIC EMR system.

Qualifications:

• Board Certification: Required in both Surgery and Pediatrics.
• State License: South Carolina medical license required.
• Certifications: BLS and PALS required.
• DEA License: Required.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in Pediatric Surgery, with comfort in neonatal surgery and trauma cases.

Work Details:

• Call Schedule: Weekend call from Friday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM.
• Support Staff: 1 RN, 2 CMAs, 2 front desk staff, with a variety of pediatric and specialty support available.
• Patient Volume: Varies.
• Patient Age Group: Pediatrics (neonates and children).
• Facilities: 16 PICU beds, 78 pediatric beds.
• Special Procedures Preferred: Paracentesis.
