At our rapidly expanding, nationally recognized cancer institute we seek to hire a full-time Fellowship-trained, Academic Thoracic Medical Oncologist for a clinical-research position to join the Division for Thoracic Oncology within Department of Medical Oncology and Therapeutics Research at City of Hope in Irvine, CA.
This position is a rare opportunity to work in a 500+ member integrated, multidisciplinary Medical Group Practice serving an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center in highly desirable Southern California. City of Hope is an expanding institution in both numbers of patients per year as well as infrastructure investment in clinical, academic and research facilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Full-time hours, working with a dynamic medical oncology group providing services in thoracic oncology, lung cancer, and head and neck cancers alongside our renowned pathologists, radiation oncologists, and surgical oncologists.
- Primary clinical responsibility (mainly outpatient with some inpatient) in the care of patients with lung cancer
- Protected research/academic time in a highly translational research environment with extensive clinical trial infrastructure (30% research)
- State-of-the-art facilities:
o 73 bed hospital, 4 operating room suites, 8 bed ICU
PAY & BENEFITS
Base Salary: $400k - $450k (base pay commensurate with qualified academic rank) Additional Incentive Available!

We’re bringing access to our scientific expertise and highly specialized cancer care closer to home by building OC’s only specialty cancer hospital at our comprehensive cancer campus in Irvine, California. Once open in late 2025, it will deepen our treatment capabilities and seamlessly connect to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer, our NCI-designated - and OC’s most advanced - cancer center. Surrounded by a regional network of care, the Irvine campus is a beacon of hope for the nation’s sixth largest county.
The new hospital is the capstone of our 63-acre City of Hope Orange County campus. Where other hospitals must serve the full spectrum of health conditions in our community, every team member at this specialty cancer hospital—from the nurses to nutritionists to physicians - will focus solely on oncology.

- ABIM board certified/eligible in medical oncology - If board eligible, must achieve board certification within two (2) years of initial appointment
