  • Medical Search International currently has an Emergency Medicine position available in Houston, TX & San Antonio, TX. We also have options in North Dakota and Missouri.

    Position specific questions • Rate: $300/hour • Reason for the need? Increased volume • Is there a specific start date needed? Immediately • Duration of need? Until August 2025 • Whats the schedule? On-site, call coverage, weekends, nights: All of the above o Are there specific dates needed? No specific dates o If call is involved, what is call volume? How often do they get called back on-site? No call, just ED shifts o Call/Rotation schedule? Standard ED shifts • Will they take an APP (or SFA when applicable)? No - APPs are full • What are expectations for orientation? (ie, shadow day? EMR training?) 2 full shadow shifts or 1 if there is previous experience within hospital system.

    Candidate Parameters • Any specific fellowships/ certifications/ procedures/ competencies we are looking for? ABEM required • Experience level? All levels if ABEM, will consider IM/FP with 3+ years or ED experience (full time)

    Hospital/unit questions • Number of beds? Approximately 30 ED treatment spaces • Census? 115/day at main, 70/day at FSED • How many daily admissions? 25% admission rate at main, 5% at FSED • Are there any consults and if so, how many per day? All specialties consistent with a level 3 trauma center are available, OB is available, in-house intensivist and hospitalist service • Whats the patient population? Urban, middle class • Trauma center? Types of cases? Acuity? Level 3. Moderate-High acuity and complex pathology. Physicians do not see low acuity at Main ED.

    Emergency Medicine • What are the shift times? 7a-5p, 11a-9p, 5p-3a, 9p-7a (main); 7a-7p, 7p-7a (FSED) • Is call involved? N/A • What procedures are required? Intubation, central line, chest tube, conscious sedation, fracture reduction, laceration repair are most common. All typical ED procedures. • What does the support staff include? Nurses, techs, paramedics • What is the average patient census? 115/day at main, 70/day at FSED

    • What are the most common cases the locum will see? All typical ED presentations. No low acuity at Main ED.

    • Annual ER admissions? 25% of patients seen total, 40% of patients seen by physicians at main ED. 5% at FSED.

    • How many EM physicians are typically on staff per shift? 4 physicians per day at Main ED, 2 at FSED. 2 APPs per day at all sites.
