Division Head Nephrology Physician Scientist

Job Summary:

The Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health seeks an exceptional and visionary academic nephrologist to assume the role of Division Chief of Nephrology. This pivotal position is an opportunity for a full-time Professor or Associate Professor Physician-Scientist, to lead transformative advancements in medicine through research, clinical innovation and training the next generation of nephrologists.

The Division Head will provide strategic and operational leadership with responsibility and accountability across the full range of mission areas. The successful candidate will partner with colleagues from the School of Medicine and Public Health, UW Health and clinical partners, and UW-Madison, which was recently ranked the 14th best public institution by U.S. News & World Report. The successful applicant will participate in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of UW Health and the School of Medicine and Public Health. They will provide direction for maintaining and growing clinical, educational and research programs that span the breadth of the field; guide faculty development; participate in the clinical teaching of medical students, residents and fellows; and mentor faculty, trainees and medical students.

The Division of Nephrology's 20 exceptional faculty members and 15 APPs provide a complete range of consultative, diagnostic and treatment services for patients locally and across Wisconsin and Illinois. The scope of clinical care encompasses all stages of kidney disease from the earliest detectable changes in kidney function through end-stage renal disease and the full range of conditions, including chronic kidney disease, kidney stone disease, glomerular disease, autoimmune disorders and inherited disorders such as polycystic kidney disease. Division faculty provide pre- and post-transplant care for patients in the UW Health kidney and kidney-pancreas transplant programs, among the most active and successful in the country. Pioneers in interventional nephrology, they lead a multidisciplinary vascular access program that performs approximately 1000 procedures per year and is a regional referral center. The division's academic success has led to philanthropic endowments and recognition by U.S. News & World Report.

Qualifications:

Candidate must be an acknowledged academic physician with demonstrated excellence in research, education and clinical care.

Must possess a record of scholarly achievements, outstanding leadership skills, professionalism and ability to develop interdisciplinary, collaborative programs.

Candidates for Professor or Associate Professor rank must meet criteria for appointment per UW School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines for appointment and promotion on the Tenure track.
