Situated on the Maine coast, Portland offers the best of urban sophistication combined with small-town friendliness. Just two hours north of Boston, Portland is an exceptionally diverse and vibrant community. Daily living is delightfully easy for those used to metropolitan living—commutes exceeding 15 minutes are considered onerous. Portland is reputed for its quality restaurants, art community, and accepting attitudes. The area provides four-season recreational opportunities, such as skiing, hiking, sailing, and miles of beautiful beaches. Portland was ranked #7 in “Best Places to Live” in the country and Maine was ranked #1 for lowest crime rate by U.S. News & World Report in May 2023, and was voted America’s best food town by Bon Appetit in 2018. Forbes.com has ranked it among its Top Ten Most Livable Cities and GQ.com calls it One of the Coolest Small Cities in America. The communities are safe, vibrant and offer excellent public and private schools. It is a great place to live and raise a family. Come see why our state slogan is “The Way Life Should Be.”
