Summary
- Zaid Almarzooq, MD, MPH is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and the Director of the Structural Heart Program at the Boston Veteran Affairs Healthcare System.
His clinical expertise is in cardiovascular medicine with a special focus on novel techniques in percutaneous coronary interventions and structural heart disease interventions. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
His research focuses on the application of causal inference methods to cardiovascular care and disease. He has received several research grants and awards, and has served on several national committees including the American Heart Association Epidemiology and Statistics Committee, American Heart Association / American College of Cardiology Task Force on Performance Indicators, and the American College of Cardiology TVT Research and Publications Committee. He has also served on the editorial board of the American College of Cardiology ACCEL.
He completed his medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2014, internal medicine residency at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine (New York, NY) in 2017 where he also served as Chief Medical Resident in 2018, and cardiology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School in 2018 serving as Chief Cardiovascular Medicine Fellow in 2019. He also completed the Masters in Public Health Clinical Effectiveness Program at Harvard University in 2021 and Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at the Smith Center for Outcomes Research at Harvard University in 2021. He has held numerous leadership positions incl. serving on the Board of Directors of the National Residency Matching Program. He has been inducted into the Alpha Omega Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently the Richard Gorlin Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Medicine Research.
