  • Dr. Zahra Maleki is an Associate Professor of pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Division of Cytopathology.
    She obtained her medical degree from Shaheed Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran. She completed Pathology residency in Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, followed by her first fellowship in surgical pathology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She completed her second fellowship in Cytopathology at the University of Miami School Of Medicine. She is board certified in Anatomical pathology, Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology.
    Dr. Maleki’ s areas of research interests include head/neck cytopathology including high-risk human papilloma virus (HPV) related head and neck carcinomas, salivary gland cytopathology and lung neoplasms. Her focus is on integrating cytomorphologic features, immunoprofile and molecular aspects of the head and neck and lung neoplasms to improve patient care by optimizing diagnosis and prognosis of the related neoplasms. She is the author or the co-author of several cytopathology books including the Milan System for Reporting Salivary Gland Cytopathology and has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in pathology. She has presented numerous lectures nationally and internationally.
    She is an active committee member at the American society of Cytopathology, the United States and Canadian academy of Pathology, and College of American Pathologists.
    Dr. Maleki is in editorial board of several pathology journals.
