- Zachary Smith, MD is a neurosurgeon based in Oklahoma City, OK who practices at OU Health. He went to college at Dartmouth and medical school and residency at UCLA Medical Center, a top 10 medical center in the clinical neurosciences. He then did fellowship training at Northwestern in Chicago, IL where he was a surgeon for over 8 years before coming to OU Health. Dr. Smith is the Executive Vice Chair of OU Neurosurgery and the head of the Spine Service Line. Dr. Smith helped lead OU spine in bringing robotics technology to patients in Oklahoma City and the spine group has now done just short of 200 cases. Dr. Smith also leads a NIH (R01) funded research program in markers of spinal injury for cervical spinal compression. This study evaluates how to improve decision making on when and how to treat patients for this common disease. Dr. Smith and his colleagues treat multiple conditions including cervical stenosis, cervical herniated disks, mid and lower spine stenosis, tumors, infections, deformity, trauma, and congenital conditions
