Dr. Chan received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at the University of California Berkeley. He continued on to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he obtained his medical degree. Afterwards, he moved to Texas for General Surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, where he trained at the renowned high-volume tertiary care centers at the Texas Medical Center, including Memorial Hermann Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center. He decided to further specialize in Colon and Rectal surgery after his clinical experiences at MD Anderson and moved to Dallas to complete his Colon and Rectal fellowship training at the Baylor University Medical Center.
Throughout his surgery training in Houston and Dallas, Dr. Winston Chan has been exposed to advanced medical technology and has incorporated this into his practice. His surgical interests include treating gastrointestinal disease, hernias, and soft tissue diseases with the use of minimally invasive surgery to improve surgical outcomes and patient satisfaction, including robotic surgery. His extensive experience with the Da Vinci robotic platform allows him to treat complex disease processes through small incisions that would normally require a large open operation. Dr. Chan is board certified in General Surgery through the American Board of Surgery and Colon and Rectal Surgery through the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery.
In his spare time, he pursues athletic endeavors such as cycling and swimming with family.
