Summary
- I am a board certified endocrinologist and geriatrician.
My clinical practice focuses in diabesity and osteosarcopenia in aging adults, as they are intertwined with falls/frailty (phenotype overlaps), polypharmacy (appropriate), depression, functional and cognitive decline.
My goal is to help people achieve the best version of themselves, considering things we cannot change and things we can modify
I am convinced it always requires exercise, but never only exercise.
I strongly recommend proper protein intake, different types of exercise, and long-term perspective on aging.
When I see a patient, I tell them not only I want to help them with their next A1c or weight in 3 months, but also how I can help them achieve better metabolic and aging health for the next 5, 10, 20 years.
For my osteosarcopenia patients, I tell them the main goal is not to make the DXA results better, but to keep them on their two feet until they die, no falls, fractures, TBI, NH, death.
These issues are connected, especially where there is so much unintentional weight loss = muscle/bone loss.
I’m pushing for proper nutritional evaluation and recommendations to reach protein intake 1-1.2g/kg/d plus lifelong exercise (4 types, including resistance/balance)
I’m passionate about falls prevention (my geriatrics side) as an integral component of osteoporosis management.
My task in CCF: leadership has kindly considered my ten years of experience in clinical and research programs, and I have been tasked to build the bridge between Endocrinology and Geriatrics.
