Dr Rodney is recognized nationally and internationally for his educational efforts and research in family medicine. This included over 200 published articles, chapters, and books. He is best known for his research on the transfer of technology improving access and quality in low resource communities. There has been an emphasis on women’s health care with delivery of the baby as the gateway to coordinated comprehensive care for the family.
In 1999, Dr Rodney funded and developed a bilingual medical facility which is a mission hospital look alike. Self sustained for over 25 years, Memphis provides family care for over 58 000 office visits and over 1100 deliveries each year. A proof-of-concept program was funded in Chattanooga 2015. In 2022, these programs won the governor’s Award for Excellence providing comprehensive family care to low resource communities in Tennessee. Costs were lower.
Dr. Rodney’s fellowship in surgical family medicine obstetrics is among the largest and longest running programs in the country. Managed by practicing family physicians, The program is unopposed by conflicts of interest from hospital or university ownership. Medicos has served as a laboratory for best practices in community based surgical family medicine obstetrics with immediate access to point of care ultrasound.
