  • Dr. Lee has served as Professor of Internal Medicine and Bioengineering at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas since 1990. He holds the Meredith Mosle Chair in Liver Diseases in his honor. Dr. Lee graduated from Amherst College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University, AOA, completing his internal medicine residency at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. After completing a research fellowship at Kings College Hospital, London, he has served on the faculties of Columbia University, the Medical University of South Carolina and The Ohio State University.
    Dr. Lee initially characterized Gc protein as an actin scavenger in acute liver failure and has delineated many of the clinical features of acetaminophen hepatotoxicity. In 1997, he founded the Acute Liver Failure Study Group (ALFSG), a national network to study this orphan disease, funded continuously since then by the National Institutes of Health. In addition, he has served as principal investigator for the NIDDK sponsored HALT-C, DILIN and the Hepatitis B Research Networks. A past Secretary-Treasurer of American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD), he has given both the Leon Schiff and the Hyman Zimmerman Memorial Lectures at AASLD Annual Meetings. In November 2014, he was awarded the Distinguished Clinician Educator/Mentor Award from the AASLD, and in 2018 received the Alumni Gold Medal from the College of Physicians and Surgeons for Clinical Excellence.
