Summary
- Dr. Karnsakul is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and a board-certified Pediatric Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist and has served as a Transplant Hepatologist of the Pediatric Liver Center at Johns Hopkins Children's Center since 2008. He trained in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at Texas Children’s Hospital/ Baylor College School of Medicine. Dr. Karnsakul’s clinical interest is to improve the care and quality of life for children with chronic liver diseases and particularly those who suffer from end stage liver disease and need an evaluation for both deceased and living donor liver transplantations.
Dr. Karnsakul has been an active investigator for other NIH-funded liver-related research studies in The Pediatric Acute Liver Failure (PALF) Study and The Childhood Liver Disease Research and Education Network (ChiLDReN), and several clinical trials in children with Hepatitis C Infection. Dr. Karnsakul is the Principal Investigator on several liver disease studies for children with Cystic Fibrosis funded by NIH and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. He is a member of Special Interest Group in Emerging Hepatitis E Virus in the United States at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and has been a mentor to Johns Hopkins undergraduate, post doctorate and PhD students for the study of Hepatitis E infection in Solid Organ Transplant Recipients. In addition, he is a member of North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) since 1998 and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) since 2007 and also served as Pediatric Hepatology Committee at NASPGHAN and Annual Meeting Education Committee at the AASLD.
