Overview of Dr. Smith

Dr. Walt Smith is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in shoulder and elbow surgery. He completed his medical school and residency training at UAB, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Smith then completed fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston, Texas. Dr. Smith treats a wide array of shoulder and elbow problems and his area of clinical expertise includes arthritis, tendon and ligament tears, trauma (fractures), and sports medicine. He performs arthroscopic procedures as well as primary and revision total shoulder replacements.

Dr. Smith is a candidate member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES), a society composed of leading national and international orthopaedic surgeons who specialize in shoulder and elbow surgery. He is also active in clinical research and has published in leading peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (JSES), the Journal of the America Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (JAAOS), and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Surgery.
