Summary

  • I am a Professor of Neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic specializing in endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery as well as minimally invasive and complex spinal surgery. I believe that commitment to the highest ideals of medicine, clear and honest communication, teamwork, and formulating an individualized treatment plan for every patient improves safety, increases precision and leads to the best outcomes.

I joined the Mayo Clinic Florida team in 2020 after 5 years as an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida where I was program director of the endovascular surgical neuroradiology fellowship and associate program director of the neurosurgery residency. Before UF, I was previously an Assistant Professor at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and served as an active-duty neurosurgeon in the U.S. Navy. Prior to medical school, I played college hockey at the University of Michigan, where we won 2 NCAA Championships, and professionally in the Edmonton Oilers organization.

I am board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) and subspecialty certified in endovascular neurosurgery. I am an examiner for the ABNS Oral Board Examination. I have served on multiple NIH study sections and as a regular faculty participant for national neurosurgery courses. My research interests include simulation and neurosurgical training, antiplatelet use in endovascular neurosurgery, novel approaches for pain control after subarachnoid hemorrhage and am a member of multiple national and international research consortiums aimed at improving clinical outcomes in neurosurgery patients.

I have been involved in graduate and undergraduate medical education for many years and serve currently as the Associate Dean of Student Affairs for the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine Florida campus.
