Summary

  • After being awarded a National Scholarship by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago in 2002, he completed medical school in at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Trinidad & Tobago in 2007. Dr. Ramoutar was selected as the Valedictorian for the graduating class of December 2007. He then completed an internship and four years of employment experience as a House Officer in the Departments of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at the Eric Williams’ Medical Sciences Complex in Trinidad. He was also a part-time tutor in Problem Based Learning for medical & pharmacy students at UWI from 2010 to 2011.

    In 2012, he joined the Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine (Jacksonville) and continued there until 2019, completing Residency and two subsequent Fellowships. He graduated from Infectious Diseases Fellowship in 2017 and then from Nephrology Fellowship in 2019. He was twice a top three finalist for the Graduating Fellow of the Year at the Department of Medicine graduation in 2017 and 2019. In addition to being trained at UF Jacksonville, he completed 4 months of training in Transplant Infectious Diseases and Transplant Nephrology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville between 2015 to 2019.

    His areas of expertise in Nephrology include Glomerular Diseases, Medical Optimization of Diabetic & Hypertensive Nephropathy, Renal Replacement Therapy both at home and in-hospital, Acute Kidney Injury and Resistant Hypertension. He is also a specialist in Clinical Infectious Diseases with expertise in the treatment of Multidrug Resistant Infections, Nosocomial Infections and Sexually Transmitted Diseases including HIV, among others.
