- Vijay Yanamadala, MD, is Director, Center for Surgical Optimization (CSO) at Montefiore and Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Since joining Montefiore, he has specialized in the treatment of patients with spinal deformities, including scoliosis and kyphosis, reconstructive surgery, and revision surgeries for flatback syndrome and failed back syndrome. In addition to this, Dr. Yanamadala also treats spine trauma, spinal tumors, and spinal vascular diseases.
In 2007, Dr. Yanamadala received his Bachelor of Art in Biochemical Sciences at Harvard College. During that same year, he also received his Master’s in Organic Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He then received his Master of Business Administration in 2012 at Harvard Business School. Dr. Yanamadala completed his education in 2012 at Harvard Medical School when he received his Doctor of Medicine. Dr. Yanamadala then went on to complete his residency in Neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Yanamadala also completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and a fellowship in Complex Spine Surgery and Spinal Deformity at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
As Director of CSO, Dr. Yanamadala’s research focuses on the analysis of surgical and nonsurgical patients with spinal disorders with a goal of optimizing patient outcomes. His work has been published in over 40 peer-reviewed journals related to the use of multidisciplinary processes and new techniques to improve the safety of efficacy of spine surgery and nonsurgical treatments. He has also taken this work abroad through international spine surgical missions to India, Sri Lanka, Kenya, and Mongolia.
Dr. Yanamadala received the William H. Sweet Young Investigator Award in 2017 from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons for his work on improving the safety and efficacy of spine surgery.
