Summary
- I am a board certified specialist in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery. For the last three years I served as the been Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean at Meharry Medical College School of Medicine (MMC SOM) since 2017. As of March 2020 I am the Executive Director of the Center for Women's Health Research and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Born in Detroit, I attended Barnard College, Columbia University followed by medical school at Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan. Following medical school,I then completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fellowship in Urological Gynecology at Wayne State University in Detroit. In addition, I went on to complete a Research and Surgical Fellowship in Electrophysiology of the Pelvic Floor/Reconstructive Surgery from St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester, England in September 1993. She obtained her master’s degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh in March 2011.
Since finishing my formative education, I has served on the Faculty of Northwestern, Wayne State, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Texas Tech Health Science Center El Paso, holding leadership positions in each of these schools. These positions include: Urogynecology Fellowship Director, Residency Director, Director of Healthcare Excellence and Safety, Practice Plan Director and Department Chair both at the University of Tennessee Memphis and Texas Tech Health Science Center El Paso.
During my career I have been the recipient a number of research grants awards from the NIH and other funding resources. I have authored close to 100 articles, book chapter and abstracts combined. My research career has allowed me to conduct numerous clinical trials and have many a fruitful research investigations.
I am is fluent in medical Spanish. Over the past three years my focus been dedicated to leading Meharry to transformational growth.
