Summary
- I am a board certified pathologist with subspecialty boards in clinical informatics, practicing in a tertiary care academic hospital, in the capacity as director of a Pathology Informatics Division. I have oversight responsibilities for all aspect of the information technology used within the pathology department for: clinical care, research and teaching, including oversight of the Laboratory Information System. The University of Michigan Department of Pathology is unique in that it is one of the few remaining centers, internationally, where I.T. stewardship has been maintained by the pathology department, as an autonomous and separate operation from central hospital I.T. operations. This separation allows the Informatics Division to maintain a staff of highly-trained technical specialists who are assigned to pathology-centric projects and systems, thus providing expert support in a manner that a typical centralized IT department would not be able to provide. I have research interests in digital pathology imaging and content-based image retrieval, as well as laboratory automation, asset tracking and natural language processing. Additionally, I have oversight responsibilities for the University of Michigan Pathology Informatics Fellowship Program - one of only six such programs in the U.S.
