Overview of Dr. Evely
Dr. Thomas Evely is a Fellowship Trained Sports Medicine/Shoulder Surgeon at UAB. He specializes in complex shoulder reconstruction and Sports Medicine since joining UAB in 2021.
In 2024, he was appointed Associate Program Director for the Orthopedic Surgery residency program and also took on the role of Director of Surgical Skills for the residency. Since joining UAB, Dr. Evely has been honored with the Excellence in Patient Care award every year and was named Resident MVP by the Orthopedic Surgery residents in 2023, highlighting his dedication to resident education and patient care.
A native of Erwin, TN, Dr. Evely completed his undergraduate studies in Health Care Administration at East Tennessee State University. He earned his medical degree from VCOM-VT in Blacksburg, VA, and returned to ETSU to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency. To further specialize in shoulder and sports medicine, he completed the Plancher Orthopedic Sports Medicine/Shoulder Fellowship. During his fellowship, Dr. Evely had the unique opportunity to train with renowned surgeons in New York, NY, Greenwich, CT, Memphis, TN, Denver, CO, and Vail, CO, seeing different approaches and techniques throughout the year.
