- Thomas R. Bowen, MD is the leader of the orthopedic oncology program at Geisinger Medical Center. He is an orthopedic surgeon with training in tumors of the musculoskeletal system (Bone, cartilage, muscle, tendon, and peripheral nerves). Dr. Bowen is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).
Dr. Bowen earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. Then, after discovering the beautiful landscape of Central Pennsylvania, he continued his orthopedic residency training at Geisinger Medical Center. He proceeded to Boston, at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, and Boston Children 's Hospital, for fellowship training in orthopedic oncology. In 2006, he returned to Geisinger in full-time practice, caring for children and adults with tumors of the musculoskeletal system.
Dr. Bowen passions include limb preserving surgery for malignant tumors as well as treatments for benign tumors and bone cysts. “Despite the turmoil in American Health Care, today is a great day for patients; they are living longer and better than any time in history. I routinely follow up with patient 's that years ago would have surely not survived. The graduations attended, vacations taken, and grandchildren held make it all worth it.”
