Summary
- I am a consultant in occupational and environmental medicine with an based in Washington DC and Ottawa. I work primarily in North America, have worked in Middle East and Australia. I am boarded and have fellowships in internal medicine (US), pulmonary medicine (US) and occupational and environmental medicine (US, Canada, UK), and have additional credentials in toxicology and environmental management. My occupational health interests center on occupational and environmental lung diseases and inhalation toxicology. I am best known for work on the occupational health problems of firefighters and hazards of oil and gas workers. My environmental interests include air quality, risk science, ecosystem and human health, and child health and the environment. Currently not seeing patients except by special arrangement. Spent about 30 years in academic as former Professor and Chair of the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health in the School of Public Health and Health Services, The George Washington University Medical Center, Washington DC, and Director of the Division of Occupational Medicine and Toxicology in the Department of Medicine, School of Medicine and Health Sciences at GW. Before that, I was Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Director of the Occupational Health Program in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. I’ve published over 250 papers and book chapters and produced six books. I served as President of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) and the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
