- Dr. Syed A Hussain graduated from Dow Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan in 2007. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine in 2014, at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Galveston. He completed his Nephrology and Hypertension fellowship from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) Galveston in 2016. He then completed his Transplant Fellowship from Indiana University School of Medicine in 2017 and joined UTMB as a Transplant Nephrology faculty in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension (UTMB-Texas Transplant Center) in July 2018. Dr. Hussain is working as transplant in-patient (9D) Director. In addition to In-patient Transplant and General Nephrology services, he is also involved management of high-risk transplant, immunomodulation/desensitization protocols, early steroid withdrawal, antibody mediated rejection, post-transplant antibody monitoring, post-transplant BK virus management, recipients of combined liver-Kidney/ heart-kidney, and immunosuppression management of patients with HIV and transplant. Dr. Hussain sees patients at Victory Lakes Clinic and outreach clinics in Beaumont, Texas as well as Victoria, Texas. Dr. Hussain works as an intervention Nephrologist. He performs procedures like kidney biopsies, tunneled /non-tunneled dialysis catheters placements, arteriovenous fistula /grafts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including angioplasties and thrombectomies. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Hussain is engaged in clinical research and student teaching as Nephrology, Renal Fluid Electrolytes Course Co-Director.
