Broad area of interest: Infection control strategies, novel anti-microbial agents research, surgical- and healthcare-acquired infections, epidemiology, vaccines, biodefense research, translational research (pre-clinical and animal studies), and clinical research and trials. .
Teaching interest: Bacteriology and infectious diseases, surgical infections, nosocomial infections & epidemiology, biodefense vaccines, biodefense & global biosecurity. Also taught in the past, general pathology, clinical pathology, and parasitology, research seminars on current vaccines, general microbiology, biochemistry of antimicrobial drugs, and medical microbiology.
Past research interests: Acinetobacter baumannii & multidrug resistance, Rickettsia rickettsii (host-pathogen interaction), Botulism (botulinum toxin, PK/ PD, intracellular toxin action and disposal research, toxin-neutralizing antibodies), Vaccine development, Apoptosis, NF-kB -mediated signaling and proteosome degradation pathways.
Present Research Interests: Acinetobacter baumannii pathogenesis and carbapenem resistance, clinical & molecular epidemiology, host cell apoptosis, novel anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm agents, biofilms, wound healing and wound infection, infection control strategies using non-thermal atmospheric DBD plasma, antimicrobial biomaterial.
