- Dr. Steven A. Madreperla joined NJ Retina in 1999. Dr. Madreperla graduated magna cum laude from the University of Vermont, Burlington, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He earned an MS degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge. He then earned his MD/PhD (Neuroscience) degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore.
Dr. Madreperla completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute at Johns Hopkins. His fellowship training in vitreoretinal disease and surgery was completed at the Duke University Eye Center, Raleigh, followed by an additional fellowship in Ocular Oncology at the Moorfields Eye Hospital, St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
Dr. Madreperla holds teaching appointments at the University Hospital of Cleveland, Cleveland, Ohio as Clinical and Surgical Attending Physician, Department of Ophthalmology, as well as MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio as Clinical and Surgical Attending Physician, Division of Ophthalmology. He is on the medical staff of Clara Maass Medical Center, St. Barnabas Medical Center, Hackensack University Medical Center, and the University of Medicine of Dentistry of New Jersey.
Dr. Madreperla has researched, published, and lectured at national and international meetings on numerous topics in ophthalmology, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinoblastoma, choroidal hemangioma, choroidal melanoma, macular hole, and retinitis pigmentosa. Dr. Madreperla has extensive participation as Principal Investigator in a number of multi-center clinical trials for macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion.
Dr. Madreperla is married with two children, and he enjoys golf, fishing, and aviation.
