He completed his medical education at Harvard Medical School and orthopedic surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dr. Glickel further honed his expertise with a hand surgery fellowship at the Roosevelt Hospital. He joined the faculty of the hand surgery service at Roosevelt which is the longest standing hand fellowship in the United States. He ultimately became the Director of Hand Surgery and ran the C. V. Starr Hand Surgery Center. His clinical experience encompasses sports medicine, arthritis, and surgeries of the elbow, wrist and hand. , Dr. Glickel was President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Chairman of the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand and President of the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has contributed significantly to the literature in hand and orthopedic surgery and is a frequent lecturer and visiting professor at medical centers around the country and internationally. He was an associate editor of the Journal of Hand Surgery for 15 years. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand and the David P. Green Mentorship Award from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has been recognized as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in New York and in America for 25 and 15 years respectively.
