Born and raised in Taiwan and moved to San Francisco at the age of 19 as an immigrant, Chung-Tang "Spencer" Liu is an atypical candidate in medicine. He spent 5 years at San Francisco State University learning, exploring and accepting who he is and what he can do to fulfill his purpose: Becoming someone with a positive impact to the people around him. He studied Cell and Molecular biology and wanted to become a physician. Against all the odds and doubtful voices at school career consultation center, he became a medical student at the age of 29 after trying different jobs and opportunities, from Uber Eats driver to a school teacher, from a staff research assistant in primary research institute to a Christian youth minister and a business investor. He is interested in becoming involved not just in the clinical and research aspect of medicine, but also in educating and promoting individual accountability in personal health and wellness by becoming involved in public education in K-12. More importantly, he wants to raise the awareness among next generation health care providers and the general public regarding one question " What is the true and fair value of health?" He is also interested in continuing advanced education in public health and business management to study what we can do as a society to improve the efficiency, safety and quality of care without compromising the cost in the next 5 decades. Outside of Medicine, he is as inquisitive and creative as he is in the clinical setting, and he likes to collect modern classic vehicles and modify them to be sleepers. He also enjoys buying used appliances and furniture and restore them to near-perfect condition.
