Primary research interests include advancements in coronary angioplasty, atherectomy, cardiac stents, drug delivery stents, cardiac transplant molecular diagnostics, drugs to treat vein grafts, and most recently, transendocardial stem cell implantation in ischemic heart failure.

Co-founded several interventional startups, including Arterial Vascular Engineering, Inc., acquired by Medtronic, Inc.; and BioCardia®, Inc., a biotechnology regenerative medicine company that develops innovative therapeutics for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
