  • Dr. Shelley Lawrence is a federally funded (NICHD R01 HD099250-01A1 and NIAID R01AI134982-01A1) Associate Professor and physician-scientist at the University of Utah, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM). She has over twenty years of NPM experience and received a Master of Science degree in Clinical and Translation Sciences in 2013. She is also a co-Founder of MelioLabs, Inc. Her research interests lie in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis and the neonatal innate immune system, with particular focus on neonatal neutrophil function. She also investigates host cell-membrane wrapped nanoparticles as a novel therapeutic for neonatal sepsis, and is skilled at designing and completing clinical studies for the optimization and validation of innovative technologies for the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. She also maintains an active involvement with local antibiotic stewardship initiatives. She has published over 30 primary science manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters and has been cited over 1100 times.
