Summary

  • Dr. Scott Shapiro is an ENT physician-surgeon who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the ear and base of the skull. He is a neurotologist and assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

He is a nationally recognized expert in diagnosing and treating hearing loss, vestibular disorders, chronic ear disease, otosclerosis, and skull base tumors in children and adults. He has extensive experience with specialized surgical procedures such as cochlear implants, vestibular schwannoma microsurgical resection, chronic ear surgery, bone conduction implants, cerebrospinal fluid leak repair, and third window inner ear disorders in both children and adults; though he believes in a conservative approach, only performing surgery when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks.

He has received numerous awards for both research and clinical care. He regularly gives lectures to both practicing ENT physicians and trainees and has written over 30 research articles and book chapters. He holds several national leadership positions such as at the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Implantable Hearing Devices Committee, the Hearing Committee and is an editor of the video journal CSurgeries.
