He completed his medical education at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in 1971, followed by an internship in internal medicine at Temple University Hospital. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology from 1972 to 1975 at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Aksman has been recognized as a Fellow (FACS) by the American College of Surgeons.
