  • Sandra M. Lowe, MD is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine, Mount Sinai, and Medical Director of the Mount Sinai World Trade Center (WTC) Mental Health Program, the largest WTC Clinical Center of Excellence, serving a diverse cohort of over 24,000 responders. She leads a large multidisciplinary team of professionals and is responsible for oversight of administrative and clinical operations, including patient care, disease surveillance, program finances and medical network management.

    Dr. Lowe has extensive experience in psychiatric sequelae of trauma exposure, and, since 2010, has cared for WTC responders diagnosed with depression, anxiety disorders and complex PTSD. She has published on 9/11-related cognitive impairment, barriers to care, and management of stressor-related disorders. An experienced educator, she is active as a teacher, and has mentored students and early career professionals from various mental health disciplines. Dr. Lowe regularly collaborates with NIOSH leadership to develop standards of mental health care for 9/11 responders and has a prominent role in the development of initiatives to improve service utilization. She contributes to the dissemination of practices relevant to disaster response and works to elevate public awareness of the enduring effects of psychological trauma exposure.
