- Samuel Wade Ross, MD, MPH, FACS is an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery, at the F.H. “Sammy” Ross, Jr. Trauma Center at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Ross is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and Gillings School of Public Health. He completed his internship and Residency at Carolinas Medical Center in General Surgery and a fellowship in Surgical Critical Care and Trauma from the University of Texas Southwestern, Parkland Memorial Trauma Center. Sam is also NSQIP Surgeon Champion at Carolinas Medical Center and has research interests in EGS, trauma, hernia, MIS, and surgical public health with over 50 peer review publications and 5 book chapters. He is the recipient of multiple international, national, and regional research awards including the Raymond H. Alexander, MD Resident Research Award from EAST, Karl Storz Award from EAES, SAGES resident research award, ACS Committee on Trauma resident paper competition national finalist and three-time winner of the NC ACS COT Resident Paper Competition. Additionally, Sam is the recipient of the EAST ORIENS award and Leadership Development Scholarship, and recently named Co-Director of EGS Public Health Research at Atrium Health and awarded with a Department of Surgery Research Career Development Award. He is also the Pediatric Trauma Co-Medical Director at the Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, and recently named to the 2021 Class of the ACS Committee on Trauma Future Trauma Leader Program.
