Summary
- Dr. Marcrom is a radiation oncologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He attended Lipscomb University for his undergraduate education on a collegiate golf scholarship, and he graduated as valedictorian of his class. Subsequently, he attended the University of Tennessee College of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society and graduated with highest honors, as well as being ranked first in his medical school class. He completed his residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During residency, he was enrolled in the Clinical Trials Pathway. Dr. Marcrom was elected to represent radiation oncology residents nationally on the ARRO executive committee, and he served as a guest editor for the ACR Journal Advisor.
He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology. He currently serves as the Medical Student Clerkship Director as well as Associate Program Director of the UAB Radiation Oncology Residency Program. He is a Proton Therapy Intensivist physician, in which he utilizes his training from Heidelberg, Germany to promote safe and effective proton therapy treatments. He is also the Associate Medical Director of Brachytherapy, in which he leads and oversees the department's brachytherapy program.
He believes that those who practice medicine are given an incredible privilege, and caring for cancer patients is an extremely meaningful and fulfilling calling.
