He completed his medical education at SUNY Upstate Medical University and his residency in Radiology-Diagnostic at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. Dr. Sclafani has held various prominent positions, including Attending Physician at NYC Health + Hospitals / Kings County since 1976, Professor and Chairman of Radiology at SUNY Downstate. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Radiology at SUNY Health Sciences Centers. His published works include studies on venous angioplasty in multiple sclerosis, endovascular management of intracardiac bullets and vascular injuries, carotid arterial trauma, splenic injury and non-operative management of trauma, among others. Recognitions include first Honorary Fellow of the Chinese Society of Interventional Radiology, Honorary Police Surgeon for the New York City Police Department and a Life Time Achievement Award from Kings County Hospital Center.
