He completed his medical education at Imperial College London School of Medicine in 1976, early transplant training with Professor Sir Roy Calne at Cambridge, followed by a residency in Surgery and fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at Stanford University Medical Center and further training in thoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota. His research contributions include publications on topics such as cardiopulmonary transplantation, complex cardiac surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and thoracic surgery in reputable journals. Additionally, he has been recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Surgeons.
