He obtained his undergraduate degree from Emory University and a Master's degree in Medical Science at Boston University School of Medicine. He received his Medical Degree at the University of New England. He completed his residency training in Anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, in Boston, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Barker also trained at Boston Children's Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Barker then completed a fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine at Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston.
