Summary
- Currently owner of Hansen Imaging Diagnostics, PC , Dr. Hansen became involved in medicine at the age of 17 as a recipient of a student research grant sponsored by the American Heart Association. A 10 year research relationship with the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service at the University of Minnesota Medical School followed, supported by several American Heart Association grants, medical school sponsored grants, and a three year Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Training Fellowship for Medical Students/Return to Medical Studies Program. Receiving a Chemistry major at Carleton College, Dr. Hansen completed a nuclear chemistry concentration under sponsorship of a U. S. Department of Energy Fellowship for Intensive Study in Nuclear Chemistry with coursework at Lawrence Livermore Laboratories and the UC Berkeley Bevatron with instruction by Nobel Laureate Dr. Glenn Seaborg. Dr. Hansen has assisted in computer modeling of the spread pattern of the HIV virus for the MN Department of Health in the early 1990’s, with the support of a Sloan Foundation Grant. Completing medical school at the University of MN in 1993, Dr. Hansen attended residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, with a concentration in body MRI /MRA, and completed fellowships in both body imaging, and information technology for radiology departments. Currently, Dr. Hansen applies his technology and physics background to evaluation of new high end imaging equipment and IT systems for the VA Medical System in VISN23, and as a member of the 2017 MN Dept of Health X-Ray rule making advisory committee. Current areas of interest include radiation dose-reduction in medical imaging. Dr. Hansen is a Past-President of the Twin Cities Medical Society and served for many years on the TCMS Board of Directors, Executive / Policy Committees, and is current President of the Minnesota Radiological Society.
