Summary
- Ronald A. Navarro, M.D. is the southern California Regional Orthopaedic Chief with responsibility for orthopaedic clinical care in all of SCAL Kaiser Permanente (KP), in collaboration with 13 different Medical Center Ortho Chiefs. He is also Inter-regional chief of Ortho for all the Regions of KP.
He is also the Director for Clinical Affairs at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine since February 2021. He was the Regional Assistant Medical Director in the Business Management Line for Retail Strategy in the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG) until this appointment.
He joined KP as an Orthopaedic Shoulder & Sports Medicine specialist in 1997 after a fellowship in shoulder surgery, arthroscopy, and sports medicine at University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Navarro was named President of the American Association of Latino Orthopedic Surgeons in March 2024. He is a well published author in shoulder and knee surgery, and is an Active Member of the prestigious American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) and its exclusive Neer Circle. Dr. Navarro is a proud Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and is a member of the AAOS Leadership Institute Mentoring group, AAOS Now Editorial Board and past Chair of the AAOS Central Instructional Course Committee. Navarro was honored to be appointed Member at Large of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) from 2017 to 2019. He was President of the California Orthopaedic Association (COA) for the 2019-2020 year, as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded and helped to plan the response to the pandemic as it related to practices across the state. He is Deputy Editor for Levels of Evidence with JBJS.
He was also Assistant Area Medical Director overseeing all Surgical Services at his home Medical Center in South Bay for 9 years, after having been Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center, for 8 years.
