Summary
- In a nutshell, I am passionate about 1) making a difference in the lives of older people, especially those living with dementia, and 2) making a difference in medical education. In particular, I relish complex problem-solving and caring for the most complex older patients. My preferred clinical practice settings are skilled/long-term care and inpatient geriatric consultation. I am wedded to the delivery of person-centered care and what I call "evidence-based common sense." In short, I'm an avid patient advocate and a practical thinker/problem-solver. I approach medical education and teaching in much the same way. I am a consummate educator--I can't help it. My strengths in medical education include education design, teaching, and mentoring. I have extensive experience working with multiple levels of learners (student, resident, fellow). The content areas I love to teach the most include dementia, interprofessional education, and skilled and long-term care medicine. I truly love coming up with creative ways to share knowledge and help learners build skills in the care of older people. As a mid-career academic geriatrician, I am best suited to a position in academic medicine with leadership opportunities.
