  • Dr. Smalligan has served as the Regional Dean of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink (UABH) Huntsville Regional Medical Campus since 2017. He studied medicine and public health at Johns Hopkins (MD 87, MPH 92), followed by a med-peds residency at Vanderbilt University (91). He has held several academic and leadership positions, including Division Chief at ETSU, Regional Chair of Medicine at Texas Tech HSC-Amarillo, and Health Authority for Potter-Randall County, TX. His expertise includes medical education, hospice and palliative care medicine, general internal medicine and public health. In research, he has published a number of abstracts and articles in several medical journals and received multiple honors.
