Summary
- Robert North, M.D., Ph.D., is an assistant professor within MD Anderson Cancer Center’s Department of Neurosurgery. He received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed a residency in neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. North served as a Chief Resident for the Baylor College of Medicine Neurosurgery residency during the 2019-2020 academic year. In addition to coordinating resident activities and duties across affiliate hospitals, this responsibility included four months as the Chief Resident for the MD Anderson Neurosurgery Service. As part of his residency training, Dr. North performed postdoctoral research within the Department of Pain Medicine at MD Anderson on fundamental mechanisms of neuropathic pain. He has also underwent fellowship training in peripheral nerve and minimally invasive/complex spine surgery at University of Michigan. He has a particular interest in surgery for tumors involving the spine and peripheral nervous system, surgical treatment for entrapment neuropathies, nerve reconstruction, and neuropathic pain as well as minimally invasive approaches to the spine for tumors and degenerative disease. His research interests are in the fundamental mechanisms of neuropathic pain and the effects of neuromodulation on the peripheral nervous system.
