Summary
- Healthcare information technology (HIT) plays an outsized role in the healthcare profession, empowering high quality, evidence-based care but sometimes leaving patients and providers frustrated and disconnected. A desire to make HIT work – really work – for providers and patients is at the core of both my personal and professional stories. Today, as I stand at the intersection of clinical care and technology, both as a practicing physician and champion of quality care at NextGen Healthcare, I’m proud that the solutions we offer enable healthcare professionals to care for hundreds of thousands of patients across the United States each year.
As chief medical officer, my role is to represent the clinician’s voice. Whether that means ensuring compliance with standards for patient safety, refining processes that improve care delivery, or enabling data integration between care providers, my personal responsibility is clear: keep patients and practices healthy. I know firsthand that one of the biggest challenges for many clinicians today is to remain independent. But with technology and services that support and allow a broad range of care delivery models and individual providers clinical preferences, we can retain our autonomy as clinicians while delivering better healthcare outcomes to our patients.
I have immense respect for the highly skilled clinicians who have dedicated their lives to taking care of others. I consider myself very lucky to interact with healthcare professionals daily who do just that. Through this interaction, I’m able to represent the voice of our NextGen Healthcare clients to ensure our tools are designed and implemented to serve those healthcare professionals, not the other way around, with fewer clicks along the way.
I’m also a firm believer in the mind-body connection. I prioritize self-care through volleyball, hiking, traveling, poker or spending time with my wife, Kerri, and our four kids. Kerri practices medicine at our private practice.
