Dr. Lang completed his Neurological Surgery residency at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago from 1977 to 1981, following his graduation in 1972 from the University of Western Ontario. He is recognized as a Fellow by the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCS(C)) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (FAANS). After 43 years of continuous neurosurgical practice in Olympia the office of Robert GR Lang MD Inc. PS is now closed. He looks forward to spending a little more time with his Award-Winning Architectural Wife, Nancy Mackin PhD and his Mariner Son, Robert Mackin Lang BSc. As of September 2024, Robert continues to participate in Thurston Mason County Medical Society, Washington State Medical Association (WSMA) and other Society events. He enjoys kayaking with his seal, sea lion, otter and Orca friends who periodically drop by. He remains devoted to preservation of this beautiful planet with his Mach E and trusty Norco Search having not visited a gas station in over 1 year. He is an avid annual participant in the Thurston County Intercity Bike Commuter challenge through the Providence Saint Peter Hospital Bicycle Team who have now won the 2 major categories two years in a row. As a bike commuter since 1986 he has completed well over 14,000 miles with a goal of completing 24,901 miles by 2034.
