His career in the U.S. Air Force includes roles as a Squadron Commander at Offutt Air Force Base, Deputy Commander and Chief Medical Officer at the 39th Medical Group in Türkiye, and Chief of the Infectious Disease service at Wright-Patterson Medical Center. Dr. Holmes led large institutional planning efforts to receive and care for potential ebolavirus patients. He is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America, and his publications cover various topics including aerospace medicine, adenomatous polyposis, malaria program enhancement and MRSA epidemiology.
