• Dr. Richard Rosenthal is an addiction psychiatrist based in Stony Brook, NY, and is a professor at Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He completed his residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at the culmination of his medical education at SUNY Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine in 1980. Dr. Rosenthal has contributed to the field through numerous journal articles, books and book chapters focusing on co-occurring substance use and other mental disorders, medications development for substance use disorders, and predictive modeling for risk opioid use disorder and opioid overdose. He is the senior associate editor of the American Society of Addiction Medicine Principles of Addiction Medicine, 7th Edition, 2024 textbook. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including being given the Founders' Award by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP) in 2008. He was named a Distinguished Fellow by the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and served as President of AAAP in 2001 as well as its Chair of Public Policy 2003-2023.
