Summary
- I completed college and medical school through a 6-year-old BS/MD program from Wilkes University and Hahnemann Medical College. After completing my internal medicine residency at Lankenau Hospital in Philadelphia, I finished a 4-year cardiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. I was Chief Cardiology Fellow there for my 2nd and 3rd year, and my 4th year was dedicated to coronary and peripheral vascular intervention.
I joined Medicor Associates, Inc. in 1990 and have practiced exclusively at Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pennsylvania. During my years in practice, because we are in a very under-served area, my annual interventional volumes have ranged anywhere from 600 to 1000+ cases per year. My lifetime catheterization laboratory case volume is in excess of 11,000 cases.
Because we have had anywhere from 4-6 interventionalists in our group over the years, we selected to have no more than 2 individuals be involved with less common non coronary procedures. My particular interest since training is in peripheral arterial disease. In 2002, I founded and have been actively involved in our carotid stent program. Since that time, we have performed in excess of 1000 carotid stents, of which I have done the majority. Our CAS major stroke, death, myocardial infarction, and minor cva rates are 0.1, 0.2, 0.1, and 1.6% respectively.
During my years in practice, I have also been actively involved with industry. I initially served on the DVI National Physician Advisory Council. When that organization was acquired and became Guidant, I served on several boards and advisory panels with Guidant/Abbott and Boston Scientific. Through our connections with industry, we have a fair number of ongoing clinical research projects. Because of my interest in Carotid Stenting, I have focused my limited time as being the primary site investigator for the Sapphire IDE, followed by the CAPTURE, CHOICE, and CANOPY registries. I am the site investigator for the Crest II and Watchman implanter.
