Overview of Dr. Fontes
Dr. Ricardo Fontes is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Rush University Medical Center and its Neurolosurgery Residency Program Director. He was born, raised and trained in Brazil where obtained his medical degree from Universidade de Sao Paulo in 2002 and completed a residency in Neurosugery at the same institution in 2008. He then completed a fellowship in MIS and Complex Spine Surgery at Rush University Medical Center in 2010, followed by a second Neurosurgery residency at the same institution in 2015.
His clinical and academic focus is adult and pediatric spinal deformity, revision spine surgery and surgery in the medically-complex spine patient especially spinal infections. He has over 100 publications and multiple awards but he is most proud of teaching residents and fellows in the operating room.
